The Porcine Pardon: Pig Named Six Seven Spared by Miami-Dade Mayor.
It might not have been at the identical stature as granting clemency to Thanksgiving turkeys, but the mayor of Miami-Dade had her own Donald Trump moment this week by ritually sparing the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the heart of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.
“This animal is guiltless. She is worthy of this pardon. She has committed zero crimes,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with obvious nods to the extraordinary and sizable number of pardons issued from the start of the onset of a new presidential term.
“If we disregard eating 6 or 7 apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “May this pig enjoy a long and happy life away from worry.”
This ceremony, either celebrating or rejecting the area's customary feast of feasting on pork during the holidays, was created to replicate the yearly bird sparing at the White House.
The pig, donated by a Coral Gables firefighter, was named for the popular vernacular phrase of young people yelling “six-seven” – inspired by a rap song lyric – often seemingly at random. The craze became so ubiquitous that a major dictionary recently made “6-7” its annual vocabulary selection.
A Peaceful Retirement
Six Seven the pig is now scheduled to spend its days at a farm sanctuary “away from grills and cookware”, according to the organizers' announcement.
“The annual pig pardon has become one of our favorite ways to open the end-of-year celebrations,” said the event host, in a decidedly positive message.
“It embodies the spirit of Miami: joyful, diverse, and based in heritage that bring people together. Every time, we are delighted to mark culture and compassion in a way only Miami can.”
Guests enjoyed a vegetarian menu of spinach fritters and cafecito as they celebrated the pig's pardon.
